News Onshore Power Supply (OPS)

Actemium’s First Onshore Power Supply Project in Germany

HADAG Sea-tourism and Ferry service is a local public transport company in Hamburg, Germany. It owns and operates passengers’ ferries across the Elbe River and the Port of Hamburg, covering 330,000 nautical miles – the equivalent of travelling around the world eleven times. The company entrusted Actemium to build the charging infrastructure (OPS) for the newly acquired hybrid ferries in Hamburg. This project marks a pivotal moment in HADAG’s transition towards cleaner maritime operations.

A Commitment to Reducing CO2 Emissions

The installation of an Onshore Power Supply system for these hybrid ferries aligns perfectly with the growing emphasis on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices. By enabling shore power charging, these ferries will significantly reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, leading to a substantial decrease in CO2 emissions.

Actemium Hamburg will be responsible for installing a medium-voltage system in an elevated container, which will supply a 4MVA transformer and a low-voltage system on the east pontoon. This infrastructure will allow the ferries to connect for charging via an onshore power system. Several pontoons will be modified to accommodate the cable trays.

Collaboration and Shared Expertise, the Strength of Actemium’s Network

The successful execution of this project was made possible through the invaluable support of the Actemium OPS Club and colleagues from Actemium Marine to Actemium Hamburg. Their expertise and guidance were instrumental in ensuring the project’s feasibility.

Actemium’s successful delivery of its first OPS system in Germany is a testament to their commitment to sustainable energy solutions and their ability to drive innovation in the maritime industry. As the world continues to focus on reducing its carbon footprint, projects like this are essential in paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
