Valmorel Ski Resort Upgrades Its Equipment with Actemium

The Domaine Skiable de Valmorel (D.S.V.), the public service concessionaire in the Tarentaise Valley, is responsible for operating the ski area. For the past five years, the operator has trusted Actemium Pays de Savoie to renovate the equipment of the Savoyard resort.
Securing Multiple Contracts
The partnership between the two companies began in 2020 with the refurbishment of the electrical installations for the Biollène six-seater detachable chairlift. In 2023, Actemium Pays de Savoie was entrusted with work on the Planchamp 10-seater POMA gondola, followed by renovations on the Beaudin conveyor belt in 2024.
Since 2021, the company, specializing in industrial process transformation, has also been responsible for renovating the high-voltage substations at the site—around twenty units in total, as each ski lift station (both top and bottom) is equipped with its own substation.
Meeting Tight Deadlines
Actemium Pays de Savoie had to tackle multiple challenges throughout these projects. The first was meeting strict deadlines, particularly the crucial December 15th deadline, which marks the official opening of the ski season.
This was no easy feat, as electrical work is typically carried out after most other trades have completed their tasks. The company had to adjust its schedule to accommodate any delays from preceding work.
Another significant challenge was weather conditions. At high-altitude work sites—up to 2,400 meters—teams had to endure rain, snow, and freezing temperatures while working outdoors all day. To improve working conditions, Actemium Pays de Savoie set up a specially equipped site trailer at the top of the slopes, allowing workers to warm up and take breaks in a sheltered space.
The continued trust that D.S.V. has placed in Actemium Pays de Savoie over the past five years, with total project investments reaching €1.2 million, is largely due to the company’s industrial expertise. Their precision and high-quality workmanship have set them apart in these projects.
Developing a Monitoring Application
Building on its strong partnership with D.S.V., Actemium Pays de Savoie has also been tasked with developing a monitoring application for the ski resort’s equipment.
This solution, scheduled for testing in spring 2025, will allow technicians to monitor equipment via supervisory controllers installed in each high-voltage substation. The application will help detect faults and trigger alerts before a failure occurs.
Not only will this tool save time, but it will also enable sub-metering supervision and enhance technician safety by reducing the need for physical inspections, especially in high-altitude areas.
With this success, Actemium Pays de Savoie now aims to expand its expertise to other ski resorts.
