An engineering wonder of the modern world
The Chernobyl Arch, the new safe confinement of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the biggest metallic mobile structure ever built, is used to protect the public from radioactive materials and to preserve the existing sarcophagus covering the reactor against weather damage.
In the future, it will be used to dismantle the original shelter and waste management, thus converting the destroyed reactor into an environmentally safe system.
Actemium Portugal participated in the project by implementing the Integrated Control System and Radiation Monitoring System. Throughout the last four years, Actemium’s scope of work has led to several other activities.
Actemium’s clients, V.O. Seyda (ChNPP Director) and S.O. Kondratenko (ChNPP Director of the Technical Department) stated: “The Chernobyl NPP is grateful for the excellent work of Actemium in the New Safe Confinement of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NSC). Actemium has demonstrated a high level of professionalism, starting with the design of the NSC Integrated Control and Radiation Control System and ending with the delivery of these systems at the construction site both in technical and quality terms. Actemium engineers played an important role in the commissioning phase of the New Safe Confinement. ChNPP engineers praise the experience gained during the trial operation.”
