Sustainable Leap: A New Era in Laundry Automation
Nedlin, a family-owned business, has been providing clean linen and workwear since the mid-20th century. Last year, with Actemium's support, the company opened a state-of-the-art laundry facility, enhancing sustainability, production capacity, and quality.
A Step Toward Sustainability
After four years of planning and development, Nedlin inaugurated a fully automated laundry specifically designed for healthcare. This significant step toward sustainability includes an on-site water purification plant and the reuse of washing water. The company sought a comprehensive logistics solution to seamlessly integrate washing machines with the storage system.
Automated Transport and Smart Storage
The new facility features a custom-designed conveyor system that transports clean linen from processing machines to the automated storage system, where customer orders are compiled. Ordered items are then routed to packaging lines via the conveyor system in a logical sequence. The system intelligently sorts laundry by weight using a “traffic light network” and delivers it to transport carts. By collaborating with all parties to develop the WMS/WCS and conveyor system, Nedlin has significantly reduced manual labor, leading to substantial cost savings.
“Actemium worked effectively and collaboratively with other project partners from the outset,” said Björn Frijns, Director of Technical Affairs.
They joined the project when the design and layout of the washing machines and storage system were already finalized and ensured seamless integration between all systems and equipment.
Efficiency and Process Control
Actemium’s solution employs RFID technology to track and monitor trays throughout the entire process, communicating data to the company’s WCS and order system. This software-driven approach enables faster, more controlled, and efficient operations. The project has empowered Nedlin to fulfill all orders for the following day, eliminating any uncertainty regarding delivery times.
“Actemium’s meticulous approach to the installation process was evident throughout” Frijns added.
They anticipated every detail and persisted until everything functioned flawlessly. Their commitment to our satisfaction was unwavering.
Meeting Market Demands
By investing in this sustainable and automated facility, Nedlin reinforces its commitment to healthcare. By reducing CO2 emissions, the company also minimizes its customers’ carbon footprint. Automation has enabled Nedlin to address healthcare’s challenges, such as cost constraints and rapid delivery requirements.
Actemium’s logistics solution has propelled us to the forefront of the laundry industry
concluded Frijns.
